The Automatic Drop-Down Smoke Barrier Curtain (also known as active or automatic fire curtain) is a high-performance fire and smoke protection device designed for modern buildings. It is constructed from refractory fiber fabric that undergoes a specialized coating process, endowing the material with excellent fire resistance, smoke blocking, and thermal insulation properties. This product is primarily used in rolling-type smoke barrier systems, where it remains discreetly rolled up above the ceiling or fixed onto the ceiling under normal conditions. Upon detection of a fire signal (via smoke/heat sensors or automatic control devices), the curtain automatically descends to form a rigid smoke-retaining barrier, effectively preventing the horizontal spread of smoke and toxic gases.

How It Works

The curtain is normally stored in a rolled state inside a compact housing installed above the ceiling line. When a fire alarm is triggered by a building's fire detection system, an electric motor or gravity release mechanism activates, allowing the curtain to unroll smoothly and drop to a preset height – typically no less than 500 mm below the ceiling (as required by international fire codes). The deployed curtain partitions the space into separate smoke zones, channeling smoke toward exhaust vents and maintaining clear evacuation routes. After the fire is extinguished, the curtain can be manually or automatically retracted for reuse.
