2. Preserve the door closer's normal function Each door is fitted with a heavy-duty, adjustable door closer, designed to automatically pull and lock the door fully closed from any open position. Do not manually slow down or force the closing mechanism. If the door slams harshly or fails to latch properly, the closer's hydraulic system or spring tension needs professional adjustment. On-site self-repair is not recommended.
3. Keep the door swing area unobstructed Ensure the floor space within the door's swing range is completely clear. Furniture, stocked items, debris and other obstructions will prevent full closing and latching, creating dangerous gaps that allow fire and smoke to pass through.
4. Conduct regular hardware inspections Fire door performance depends heavily on its supporting hardware. Facility teams should carry out monthly routine inspections to verify that fire-rated locks, panic exit devices and hinges operate smoothly. The door must fully engage with the strike plate every time it closes.
5. Avoid unauthorized door modifications Do not drill extra holes, install non-fire-rated attachments such as pet doors, or replace original factory hardware with ordinary civilian locks. Any unapproved alterations will damage the door's fire-resistant integrity and invalidate its official certification.
