The explosion proof airtight door is a professional dual-function industrial door, engineered to deliver reliable blast resistance and full airtight sealing performance. It can withstand designated peak overpressure and blast impulse while completely blocking the leakage of gas, vapor and fine particles through the door body. Tailored for high-risk industrial sites, this door effectively contains internal explosions to safeguard adjacent spaces, staff and on-site environments. Meanwhile, it achieves strict isolation of hazardous, toxic and sterile air environments to meet dual safety and sealing standards.
It is widely applicable to ammunition storage depots, petrochemical control rooms, offshore operation platforms, high-potency pharmaceutical workshops, BSL-4 laboratories and nuclear industry facilities. Unlike ordinary blast doors with poor sealing performance or standard airtight doors that cannot withstand explosion impact, this integrated product perfectly combines professional blast resistance and high-standard airtightness to meet two core safety requirements at the same time.

Product Features
Corrosion protection:Two anti-corrosion treatments are optional: epoxy zinc-rich primer plus polyurethane topcoat (minimum dry film thickness of 300μm) or hot-dip galvanizing. The finished door adapts to marine environments and chemical corrosive working conditions.
Blast load rating
Factory certified to withstand peak reflected overpressure ranging from 1 bar (14.5 psi) to 10 bar (145 psi), with a positive phase duration of 20 to 200 milliseconds. Custom high blast resistance ratings are available to accommodate special site requirements.
Airtightness class
The overall air leakage rate is no more than 0.25% of the room volume per hour under ±500 Pa pressure, complying with ISO 10648-2 Class 2 and EN 12207 Class 4 standards. An optional high-precision sealing version is available, with a helium leakage rate lower than 1×10⁻⁵ mbar·L/s.
Structural construction
The door leaf is made of high-strength carbon steel (thickness: 6mm to 20mm) or 304/316L stainless steel. Equipped with built-in reinforcing ribs and impact-absorbing core materials (such as reinforced concrete and composite armor), the structure is sturdy and impact-resistant for long-term stable operation.
Sealing system
Adopts double-row inflatable silicone or EPDM gaskets, which only form a sealed state when the door is fully closed and locked, effectively preventing gasket blowout during explosions. Non-inflatable versions are also available, fitted with high-temperature resistant pre-compressed memory foam gaskets that work stably in temperatures from -40°C to +250°C.
Locking mechanism
Fitted with multiple heavy-duty cam or wedge tightening lock lugs, support manual and hydraulic operation modes. The locking force is evenly distributed around the door perimeter to ensure tight closure, eliminating the risk of single-point structural failure.
Pressure equalization
Comes with a blast-rated built-in pressure equalization valve. It balances the internal and external pressure after an internal explosion before door opening, avoiding safety hazards caused by sudden door thrust due to pressure difference.
Critical Usage Precautions
To ensure stable and reliable door performance, avoid personal injury and equipment damage, all operating and maintenance guidelines below must be strictly followed:
Do not exceed the rated blast pressure
This door is designed for a specific overpressure and impulse tolerance range. Even short-term overpressure exceeding the rated standard will cause permanent frame deformation, loss of airtightness, or even severe door leaf ejection. Please complete site hazard assessment and confirm applicable parameters before installation.
Maintain gasket integrity
Inspect inflatable gaskets thoroughly every time the confined space is used. Any scratches, wear and tear, or abnormal inflation pressure (only clean and dry air or nitrogen is allowed for inflation) will damage the airtight effect. Replace gaskets every 2 to 3 years, or in accordance with the manufacturer's official maintenance schedule.
Keep the equalization valve unobstructed
After an explosion occurs, do not open the door until the equalization valve fully balances internal and external pressure. Opening the door under residual pressure difference (even as low as 0.5 bar) will lead to dangerous door ejection. Keep the valve free of paint coverage, debris and any accidental blockage.
Conduct regular structural inspections
Check the connection between the door frame and the surrounding concrete or steel wall regularly for cracks, loose bolts and corrosion. It is worth noting that the supporting wall must also meet blast resistance standards; a high-performance door cannot provide effective protection when installed on an unqualified wall structure.
Lubricate locking lugs in a standardized manner
Only use the designated high-pressure grease for lubrication. Excessive lubrication will accumulate dust and cause mechanism jamming, while insufficient lubrication will increase friction, lead to incomplete cam locking and weaken airtightness.
Standardize operation and on-site signage
Only authorized and trained personnel are permitted to operate the door. Post clear operating guidelines on both sides of the door, including emergency release procedures and mandatory inspection requirements for the equalization valve before opening.
Complete annual performance recertification
Carry out full air tightness tests (tracer gas test or pressure decay test) and comprehensive visual inspection of welds, hinges and limit stops annually. Additional full inspection and certification are required immediately after any explosion impact (even below the rated pressure). Keep complete and signed maintenance records.
Installation & Compliance
Our explosion proof airtight doors are designed and manufactured in strict accordance with mainstream industry standards including NFPA 69 (Explosion Prevention Systems), API 2218 (Fireproofing Practices), UFC 3-340-02 (Structures Resisting Accidental Explosions) and ISO 10648-2. Every door undergoes factory pressure and air leakage testing, with official conformity certificates provided for each product.
For a complete on-site safety solution, we recommend matching the door with professional explosion venting or suppression systems based on actual working conditions.
Our professional engineering team can provide customized blast load calculation and airtightness grade selection services according to your specific hazardous area classification and site conditions.
