Fixed Fire Resistant Window
Details
A fixed fire rated window is a non-opening glazed assembly designed to provide continuous fire resistance in buildings where ventilation is not required, but fire compartmentation is critical. Unlike operable windows, the fixed version eliminates moving parts, offering superior structural integrity, easier sealing, and often a higher fire rating at a more economical cost. These windows are commonly installed in stairwells, elevator lobbies, corridor partitions, exterior fire-rated walls, and industrial facilities. Their simple yet robust design ensures long-term reliability under both normal conditions and fire emergencies.

Material Selection – The Foundation of Fire Performance

The fire resistance of a fixed window depends primarily on three material groups: the frame, the glazing, and the sealing system.

Frame Materials

We offer frame options based on project requirements and standards:

Galvanized Steel Frame

The most common choice for fixed fire windows. Steel is non-combustible, retains strength at high temperatures, and can be roll-formed or welded. Typical thickness ranges from 1.5 mm to 2.5 mm. Zinc coating provides corrosion resistance for interior or protected exterior applications.

Stainless Steel Frame

Used in high-humidity or corrosive environments such as chemical plants, marine buildings, or food processing facilities. Stainless steel offers the same fire performance as galvanized steel with superior rust resistance.

Fire-Rated Aluminum Frame

With thermal break and intumescent inserts, aluminum profiles can achieve up to 120 minutes of fire resistance. Lighter than steel, they are often chosen for curtain wall integrations or where consistent appearance with non-rated aluminum systems is desired.

All steel frames are filled internally with fireproof insulation material to reduce heat transfer through the metal section.

Fire-Resistant Glass

The glass is the most critical component. We use multi-layer fire-resistant glazing manufactured by two proven technologies:

Laminated Intumescent Glass

Multiple glass plies bonded with transparent intumescent interlayers. When exposed to heat, the interlayers expand into a rigid opaque foam that blocks radiant and conductive heat transfer. Typical thickness ranges from 10 mm to 35 mm.

Gel-Interlayer Fire Glass

A monolithic glass containing a fire-resistant gel core. Once heated, the gel becomes a solid insulating barrier. This type often provides clearer vision before fire exposure.

Our fire-rated glass complies with integrity (E) and insulation (EI) ratings. For EI-rated windows, the non-fire side surface temperature remains below 140°C, protecting people and nearby materials.

Sealing and Gaskets

Because the window is fixed, the seal between frame and glass must also resist fire and smoke. We use:

Intumescent Fire Seals

Graphite-based strips installed in frame grooves. At temperatures above 120°C, they expand up to 10 times their original volume, sealing any gap against flames and hot gases.

Ceramic Fiber Gaskets

High-temperature resistant gaskets that hold the glass in position while providing a smoke-tight fit.

Fire-Rated Silicone Sealant

Applied around the glass perimeter to create a continuous firestop layer.

why choose us

Higher reliability

No hinges or handles that could fail under heat

Tighter smoke seal

Continuous perimeter seals without moving gaps

More economical

Simpler hardware and assembly

Often higher fire rating

Some fixed designs achieve 120+ minutes where casement versions max out at 90 minutes

Conclusion

Our fixed fire rated window is a product of careful material engineering and precise manufacturing. From the initial selection of steel profiles and fire glass to the final packaging, every step is controlled to deliver consistent passive fire protection. Whether you need a small window for a stairwell or a large fixed light for a fire-rated curtain wall, we can manufacture to your dimensions and fire rating requirements.
