Installation Height of Smoke Baffle

Smoke blocking depth (depth hanging down from ceiling / suspended ceiling bottom):

Minimum requirement: ≥500 mm (mandatory per XF533). It shall also comply with smoke reservoir thickness (GB51251):

Mechanical smoke exhaust: smoke reservoir thickness ≥10% of clear room height, and ≥500 mm

Natural smoke exhaust: smoke reservoir thickness ≥20% of clear room height, and ≥500 mm

Take the larger value, minimum 500 mm. For open/grille ceilings with opening rate ≤25%, the smoke reservoir shall be measured from the slab bottom instead of ceiling. Smoke blocking depth shall not exceed the maximum value stated in the type test report; otherwise it fails acceptance. Hebei Hong'an manufactures strictly in accordance with the report.

Clear height from bottom edge to floor (safety passage height):

No national mandatory value, subject to local review standards:

Walkways & occupied areas: ≥2.1 m recommended

Above stairs: ≥2.3 m to tread surface

Low-height areas (basements, narrow aisles): motorized smoke baffles may allow ≥1.8 m in some regions. Warning signs are required if below 2.1 m; transparent glass type is not recommended to avoid collision.

Note: Motorized smoke baffles are retracted in ceiling under normal conditions. The above height requirements apply only after they drop upon smoke detector activation in fire.
