Technical Requirements for Ward Doors

In daily hospital operation, doors are components subjected to repeated use every day. Durability, easy cleaning and compliance with hospital infection control are the most practical requirements. Medical steel ward doors integrate collision resistance, antibacterial cleanliness and airtight sealing. They are suitable for various medical spaces including outpatient areas, wards, treatment rooms and nurse stations. Featuring quiet operation, high durability and convenient disinfection, these doors reduce later maintenance workload, pass hospital infection assessment and project acceptance smoothly, and create a safe and clean diagnosis and treatment environment for hospital wards.

Door leaf general requirements

Door leaf material: Steel (galvanized steel sheet) / medical resin board; steel door leaf face sheet ≥0.8 mm, door frame ≥1.2 mm; inner filling: honeycomb paper / aluminum honeycomb / rock wool (fire-rated version), with built-in reinforcing ribs for anti-deformation performance. Surface: Antibacterial coating, scrub-resistant, resistant to disinfectant corrosion, sharp corners and exposed screws are not allowed, soft color. Opening type: Swing door, opening outward towards the corridor. The lock shall not be locked from the inside; the door can be opened directly from the inside even if locked from the outside for emergency access. Door closer and coordinator are optional. Opening/closing force ≤30 N, cycle life ≥200,000 times. Sealing: Replaceable antibacterial sealing strips around the door leaf; automatic drop bottom sealing strip is optional for noise reduction and dust prevention. Barrier-free: The bottom gap and opening mode of the door comply with barrier-free specifications.

Special Requirements for Observation Window

Position: The center of the observation window is approximately 1450~1500 mm above finished floor level. It facilitates observation by standing nurses and visibility for bedridden patients, without obstruction or privacy exposure. Standard sizes: 300 mm (W) × 400 mm (H); alternative size 200 × 300 mm. Rectangular or rounded rectangular shape (rounded corners recommended for anti-collision). Glass: Tempered safety glass. Fire-rated tempered glass shall be adopted for fire-rated wards. Glass thickness ≥5 mm; double insulated glass is optional for noise reduction, free of fogging. Window frame: Aluminum alloy / medical injection-molded frame, flush with door leaf, rounded corners fitted. Sealing gaskets provide water seepage prevention and shock absorption. Privacy option: Frosted / atomized glass available upon request; clear tempered glass for general wards.

Special Requirements for Bumper Strips (Protection against impacts from hospital beds and wheelchairs)

Installation position: Lower part of the door leaf, 0~300 mm above finished floor level (most common), installed on both sides. For high-traffic ward areas, the height can be increased to 400 mm, or full-length bumper panels are available.

Material options:

304 stainless steel bumper strip: Wear-resistant and easy to clean, widely adopted in hospitals; thickness ≥1.0 mm.

PVC / medical polymer bumper strip: Good elasticity, low noise, color can be matched with the door.

Structure: Recessed mounting or surface mounting. Edges are rounded and deburred. Firmly attached to the door leaf, no warping and no dirt accumulation. Welds and joints are polished.

Optional upgrade: Add horizontal bumper strips in the middle of the door leaf to prevent impact from cart handles.
