Smoke Baffle Material Classification (Minimum Thickness Requirements per National Standard)

Galvanized steel plate (GB):

Plate ≥0.8mm, bent and shaped. Supporting galvanized angle hangers and reinforced borders. Anti-corrosion and anti-impact; widely used in underground garages and workshops.

Fire-resistant glass (FB):

Fire glass ≥6mm, normally fitted with metal frames. Transparent with nice decoration; for hotel lobbies, exhibition halls and office buildings. Laminated fire glass recommended to avoid splash injuries from broken shards.

Non-combustible inorganic composite board (WB):

Board ≥10mm. High-density inorganic noncombustible panel, smooth surface and reasonable price. Mainly for fixed baffles installed under suspended ceilings.

Inorganic fiber fabric:

Thickness ≥0.6mm, Class A non-combustible, warp breaking strength ≥600N. Glass fiber base with silicone rubber coating. Rollable for storage, the only material for rolling movable smoke baffles. Fitted with steel counterweight bottom beam at bottom to keep vertical sagging.

Structure Types (Four Main Engineering Structures)

Type1: Fixed Rigid Smoke Baffle (D-G)

Composition: Rigid panel + galvanized hangers + beadings + reinforced frame, mounted under slab/ceiling, permanent, no electric parts. Steel: Bent steel plate, angle steel suspenders; Fire glass: Metal frame + fire glass with suspenders; Inorganic board: Inorganic composite board hoisted with metal beadings. ✅Pros: Simple structure, no motor/circuit, low failure rate & cost. ❌Cons: Protrudes below ceiling, poor aesthetics & passage impact. Application: Non-driving zones of underground garages, factories, machine rooms, secondary corridors.

Type2: Rolling Movable Type (H-R, flexible, top-selling electric smoke baffle)

Composition: Ceiling box + reel + motor + inorganic fire curtain + counterweight beam + side guides + controller, backup battery & linkage module. Normal: Curtain rolled inside ceiling box, flat ceiling surface. Fire alarm: Triggered by smoke detector signal, curtain drops by gravity to designed height; can be reset after fire. Parameters: Max single width ≤6m; lap ≥100mm for multi-sections; descending speed ≥0.07m/s. ✅Pros: Light weight, compact box for large span; concealed for good appearance. ❌Cons: Many electric parts, regular linkage test & battery maintenance required. Application: Mall main aisles, exhibition halls, lobbies, garage driveways.

Type3: Flip Movable Type (H-G, rigid electric smoke baffle)

Composition: Ceiling-mounted rigid flip panel (galvanized steel/fire glass) + rotating shaft + drive motor + latch + controller. Normal: Panel hidden horizontally, flush with ceiling. Fire alarm: Motor unlocks, panel rotates 90° downwards to form smoke barrier. Parameters: Max single width ≤2.4m; flip time＜7s; lap ≥20mm for multi-sections. ✅Pros: Rigid panel, impact-resistant, no curtain aging, smooth surface. ❌Cons: Limited single width, segmented assembly; needs large ceiling space. Application: Small-span ceiling, refined public buildings, curved ceiling areas.

Type4: Fixed Flexible Smoke Baffle (D-R, rarely used)

Inorganic fire fabric, top hoisted with bottom counterweight, permanently hanging; no reel or motor. Mostly for old project retrofits, seldom adopted now. Fabric exposed long-term easily accumulates dust and ages.
